Certificate in Kiwifruit - Orchard Skills

The Certificate has been designed in consultation with the Kiwifruit Contractors Association and New Zealand Kiwifruit Growers Incorporated for people employed to carry out the work on Kiwifruit orchards.

By the time students have successfully completed this programme, they will, as graduates, be able to:

  • Demonstrate the specific skills required to carry out the seasonal tasks during the Kiwifruit growing season.
  • Demonstrate commitment to work consistently and ethically as a valuable team member within the orchard operation.
  • Maintain their personal health and safety while completing the seasonal tasks.

Horticultural Cadet Programme

National Certificate in Horticulture (Fruit) - Level 4

  • Are you looking for a challenge?

  • Do you have the desire to move up in the kiwifruit industry?

WE MAY HAVE THE COURSE YOU ARE LOOKING FOR!

  • 3 Years part time (about 20 days per year)
  • Starts February each year, breaks for the harvest, ends in December
  • Focuses on orchard management and post-harvest practices including:
    * Pests and Diseases * Weeds * Soils & Fertilisers * Plant Science
    * Pruning & training * Pollination & thinning * Grafting * Tractors
    * Quality Control * Packaging & packing * Crop estimation & maturity
  • Classes are a mix of theory and practical components
  • Students include field staff, post-harvest staff, supervisors, growers, service industry staff, contractors
  • Successfully completing this national qualification will enable you to become an effective leader in the horticultural industry
