Food Act Registration
We have started to receive queries on what the requirements are for registration under the Food Act 2014. All horticultural businesses are required to be registered by the end of February 2019. Zespri has been working with the Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) on how to streamline this process for kiwifruit growers including how to collect the information required to submit a bulk registration.
For kiwifruit growers under the Zespri Option 2 group scheme (that’s those growers that undergo a GAP inspection with their packhouse) the option to register for the Food Act via Zespri will be made available.
The key messages for growers are:
- Registration with MPI for the Food Act is mandatory.
- Keep an eye out for further communications on the registration process from Zespri in the coming weeks.
- When registration is made available, it must be completed in the given timeframes or it will not be processed.
- If you grow crops other than kiwifruit, please discuss your options with your other exporters and contact Zespri if you are unsure of your registration requirements.
More communication regarding the registration process will be coming out soon. Growers do not need to do anything regarding registration until this time. If you have any questions please email preharvest@zespri.com
