Gisborne
Gisborne District Council (council) monitors rainfall at four sites: Mangapoike, Matawai, Ruatoria and Waipaoa River at Matawhero Bridge. All four sites have recorded lower than average rainfall in the last two months. Recent rainfall week beginning 20 November 2020 has temporarily alleviated soil moisture and surface water levels, however, going into December and January NIWA is predicting a more northerly flow which tends to bring more moisture however is likely to be tempered with westerly flows which tends to dry the Gisborne region out. The recent rain should provide relief through the next 2-3 weeks which is good news for Growers.
Council have a number of resources in their website which Growers may find helpful, click here for more information.
