Senior Policy Analyst Role Available!

About NZKGI 

NZKGI was established to advocate for the commercial and political interests of New Zealand kiwifruit growers and works on the industry’s behalf to lobby change in policy, while retaining and building industry, stakeholder, local and central government relationships.


Purpose of the Role 

The Senior Policy Analyst is responsible for leading NZKGI’s Environmental and Policy portfolio.


Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the development and delivery of high-quality policy within a complex and challenging policy space
  • Lead the policy response on water and chair the water policy group
  • Actively engage the Forum members of the Environmental & Policy portfolio in policy responses
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with central and local government, industry stakeholders and others as required
  • Provide presentations to growers as required on policy related matters
  • Provide support to the CE in policy matters
  • Preparation of articles for industry publications and responding to grower queries


Competencies and Skills Required 


  • Substantial policy experience (usually a minimum of five years in a policy role)
  • Highly developed communication skills including the ability to communicated clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and styles, both written and verbal
  • Provide high quality, objective analysis and advice within specified timeframes
  • Excellent understanding of the mechanics of government policy and legislation
  • Exceptional team player with a strong ability to contribute positively to a team environment
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills


  • Compelling persuasion and influencing skills, with the ability to make a strong personal impression on others, navigate relational tensions and gain clear commitment as required
  • Able to build and maintain robust, transparent relationships with key stakeholders, strategic partners, service providers and government departments
  • Able to speak with a high level of confidence and credibility when addressing the public or when expressing opinions, information or key points of an argument
  • Suitability to a high pressure environment, with a propensity for positively coping with pressures and setbacks
  • Can work both autonomously and within a team effectively.
  • Communicate ideas for improving processes with a positive and constructive attitude.
  • Maintain a calm approach and professional demeanor at all times.
  • Has a high level of interpersonal skill that enables good relationships with varied stakeholders to develop and implement objectives and plans.

Education & Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Minimum of five years previous work experience in a relevant role
