WorkSafe conducting site visits between July – September 2025
We’ve been advised that WorkSafe will be conducting proactive monitoring site visits across horticulture, viticulture, and rural contracting sectors between 1 July and 30 September 2025.
The visits are not formal inspections, but an engagement exercise to better understand health and safety practices across the sector. WorkSafe will contact sites ahead of visiting. They will only visit unannounced if persons are not engaging. We understand their preference is to visit parties they have not engaged with before.
If you are contacted by WorkSafe, we encourage you to engage positively. It’s good practice for a regulator to proactively engage with and monitor regulated parties to learn from each other about what is happening in workplaces and industries and support good practice.
What will WorkSafe be looking at, and can I check some of the requirements to make sure I’m complying with rules?
WorkSafe will be focusing is on safety around vehicles and hazardous substances, including:
- storage of hazardous substances
- maintenance of inventories
- availability and use of safety data sheets.
Inspectors will also engage with PCBUs (Persons Conducting a Business or Undertaking) to understand how health and safety information is communicated to and from workers on site.
Below is some links to the requirements and resources WorkSafe will be focussing on. We encourage you to audit your workplace periodically as good practice.

What if my site is non-compliant with the rules?
The reason for visiting to better understand health and safety practices, not do a full inspection of your site. It’s a learning opportunity for them and for growers.
If they do identify non-compliances, they will tell you. If the non-compliance is low risk, they will likely just tell you how you the non-compliance can be addressed. However, if the non-compliance is higher-risk then they may need to use one of their enforcement tools to assist you to comply.
