A Constructive Total Loss (CTL) is when hail damage is so severe that the orchard is assessed as if all remaining unharvested fruit has been lost at the time of the hail strike.
- An independent loss assessor determines whether a CTL has occurred
- CTL limits vary by variety and time of year
- If part of the orchard has already been harvested, the CTL assessment applies only to the fruit that was still unharvested
