2019 Licence Release
The 2019 licence application window opens on Wednesday 27 March and closes on Wednesday 10 April 2019.
In December 2018 the Zespri Board approved the release of:
- 700 hectares of SunGold licence in 2019 via a Closed Tender Bid. All other aspects of the 2018 process will be retained, with the exception of the maximum hectares increasing from 20 to 30 hectares.
- 50 hectares of licence for Organic SunGold, specifically for new plantings, with minimum bid size for organics in some circumstances being less than 1 hectare (refer Rule 7.3). This pool is accessible to all bidders.
Zespri also intends to extend the release of SunGold licence out to 2022, meaning a total of 2,800 hectares to be released over the next four years, together with a further 200 hectares of Gold Organic licence out to 2022. Demand forecasts support the release of 700 hectares per year. However, this is subject to an annual review that would consider any potential new risks to Zespri’s current demand outlook.
Zespri have produced a summary comparison of the SunGold vs Organic SunGold: Licence Application Overview and Rules. It can be located here. It is not a substitute for the fuller 2019 Licence Application Overview and Rules which should be read in full; available on Zespri’s canopy here (for 2019 SunGold) and here (for 2019 Organic SunGold).
