Grower Guidance / COVID-19: Pukekohe Travel

COVID-19: Pukekohe Travel

With the continuation of Auckland in Level 3, there will be increased restrictions on movement across the border.  This is of particular concern to anyone that has staff moving from Waikato to Pukekohe for work.  Only those workers operating in industries with exemptions can continue to cross the border.

There are four things you will need to take into account:

  • Provision of information to the Ministry of Health

The Ministry of Health require all essential horticulture industry operators who have staff crossing the Auckland borders to provide the following information:

  • key contact details
  • the activity, number of people or entities (and class of entities) the exemption request relates to
  • rationale for the exemption – why is the exemption necessary?
  • what public health risk mitigation measures are/can be put in place to minimise the risk of transmission of COVID-19?
  • whether the exemption is for personal or business purposes
  • what are the consequences should an exemption not be granted.

This information must be submitted via Email to covid-19policyresponse@health.govt.nz
For more information, see the bottom of this webpage here.

  • Travel Exemption Letter

Anyone who is crossing the border for work in Auckland must carry the attached exemption letter from the Ministry of Health which is also available on the NZKGI website here.

  • Essential Worker Letter

Employees must carry the attached Essential Worker letter to show that they work in Horticulture and are permitted to remain operational available on the NZKGI website here.

  • Gazette Notice

It is recommended to carry the gazette notice which covers horticultural workers involved in the production, processing, transport and supply of fresh produce between Pukekohe and the surrounding areas with the above documents. The gazette notice can be found here.

If there are any concerns or questions, please contact the NZKGI office.
