The competition features a series of theoretical and practical events designed to test contestant’s knowledge and skills in a competitive and fast-paced environment. This year, the BOPYFG competition will be held in conjunction with the Te Puke A&P Show, which offers a wide range of activities to keep the whole family entertained!
The Executive Committee meet monthly to discuss topical issues and participate in decision making. Doug Brown is NZKGI's current elected Chairman (elected December 2015) and members on the Executive Committee are Doug Brown, Tony Leicester, Mark Mayston, Simon Cook, Andre Hickson and Mike Smith.
The Gala Dinner that follows the Bay of Plenty Young Fruit Grower Competition day event is where contestants complete their final challenge which is a speech competition with the overall winner announced thereafter. In 2016, the gala dinner was attended by 410 people from regional and national businesses.
During the year, the senior Zespri team and Board along with NZKGI and KVH partakes in three rounds of grower roadshows, attended by around 700 growers from around the country. These roadshows have been held since the late-1990s and growers get updated on topical industry information and events in an open forum. All are welcome to attend.
